Overview of Businesses

What is a Business?

A Business is a legally recognized entity that engages in an economic system where goods and services are exchanged for one another. Today Middesk defines a Business as a legal entity, incorporated in the United States, and registered to conduct business in at least one U.S. state.

In the course of a legal entity's life, a business will engage with multiple regulatory bodies like the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and at least one U.S. state's Secretary of State. In the normal course of business operations, an entity is also likely to engage with vendors, clients, financial institutions, and investors. Each of these relationships adds to the footprint of a business and can be an indication of the entity's overall health.

Middesk enables customers to either retrieve details about an entity's relationships or history, or validate details they might have on file about these entities. This information can be used to supplement a business onboarding program, build out a deeper compliance profile for an entity, or validate aspects of a financial underwriting model, to name a few use cases.
